Safety Saturday on the Square

Each year Members of the Department gather on the Capital Square with members of other Dane County public safety groups to present a safety expo for the residents of Madison and the surrounding area.Safety Saturday Booth

"Safety Saturday on the Square" was first created in 1996 by the Madison Fire Department as a way to showcase their agency and to spread the word about safety. In 1997 the Fire Department decided to invite other public safety/service groups to join them, and thus the first annual Safety Saturday on the Square event was born.

The entire event, which is held in conjunction with the Farmer's Market, was sponsored by Target, Images Unlimited and Firefighters Local 311. With a theme of "Safety Should Be Your Target", the organizations involved had displays, live safety- related demonstrations, and plenty of helpful hints and tips to help keep you safe. Annually, the department gives away Frisbee's, water bottles, Safety whistles, and bags filled with brochures and other safety information as well as stickers and coloring books for the kids.Officer Ballweg at Safety Saturday
